The Reactor Comp. is used solely in the construction of Small and Large Reactors.
Usage
Your entry point to assembling your first Reactor is finding 
Silver Ore or 
Silver Ingots.
The second ingredient is 
Gravel. Most engineers eject gravel, because it overfills cargo containers and Refineries, but this is one of the rare components that actually requires gravel; luckily, it's always easy to come by, from mining stone.
Port size
On small grids, Reactor Comp.s fit through small ports.
Trivia
The non-functional Storage Shelf 3 also optionally requires Reactor components, but this is an exception, since it only stores the components.
