Canvas is an consumable item used solely to reload the  Parachute Hatch. Produce Canvas from a  Basic Assembler's or  Assembler's Equipment tab.

Usage

To be used properly, always keep a set of canvas in a Parachute Hatch's inventory. Each deployment of the Parachute Hatch uses up one set of Canvas in Survival Mode. A "set" of canvas is 1 for small grid and 5 for large grid.

In Creative Mode, parachutes work even if you don't keep the Parachute Hatch supplied with Canvas. If you take a blueprint of a ship whose parachutes work in Creative Mode and paste it in Survival Mode, remember to refill the Canvas.
