Not sure why it's beyond a computer ability to handle inertial dampening for us. You're in space, building space ships... And no one has programmed a computer to make movement easier? The only time where I could see a computer struggling to do this is if there was nothing nearby to relate to. However they are operating a bit strange at the moment... I'm not sure why they are currently stronger at breaking than manually trying to decellerate. Apparently normal thruster use is only 2/3 power and inertial dampeners use full power; which is rather weird.
