The Lab Vat is a variant of a Cryo Chamber that you can use to store your character in multiplayer. You can build them only if you purchase the Fieldwork Pack DLC, but you can allow your faction members to use them.

Usage

The Lab Vat is similar to the Cryo Chamber: After an engineer interacts with it, they are kept alive, and their inventory is stored, along as they vat is connected to a source of power and oxygen. This is useful in multiplayer, where otherwise your engineer eventually dies while you're offline, and loses their inventory.

Inventory

It holds 1000 litres of inventory.

Construction

These blocks exist on large grid only. When you place it (and it's color is not too dark) you can see the words DOWN along the bottom edge so you know which side is up or down. It has three conveyor ports, on top, bottom, and backside. You should at least connect one of them to a source of oxygen.
