Character Weapons
Character Weapons are special offensive tools that engineers carry in their inventory. They are the player equivalent of Block Weapons for ships and stations. Handheld weapons include pistols, rifles, and rocket launchers. You craft them on the Tools tab of the Assembler.
Requirements
In Survival Mode, the engineers will need to carry suitable ammunition in their inventories, otherwise the weapons can't be reloaded and won't work.
Usage
You can use handheld weapons on foot to shoot players, Sabiroids, Cyberhounds, and to "remotely" destroy blocks, such as defensive turrets, light armor, antennas, or drone thrusters.
Prerequisites:
- Have the weapon and its ammo items in your inventory.
- While not seated, press G key to configure your toolbar.
- In the Character Weapon category, drag and drop the weapon to a toolbar slot.
- Press ESC key to close the G menu.
After you have the weapon on your toolbar:
- Press the slot number to wield the weapon.
- Press R key to load ammunition.
- Hold to aim down sights (zoom).
- Press to shoot.
The numbers in the toolbar slot indicate how much ammo you have left.
Variants
Handheld weapons exist in four variants:
Standard | Automatic | Precision | Elite |
---|---|---|---|
cheap, early-game, slow | fast, close-range, spread | sniper, slow, long-range | highest precision |
S-10 Pistol | S-20A Pistol | N/A | S-10E Pistol |
MR-20 Rifle | MR-50A Rifle | MR-8P Rifle | MR-30E Rifle |
RO-1 Rocket Launcher | N/A | PRO-1 Rocket Launcher | N/A |
A Handheld grinder can be an impromptu close-range/melee weapon as well.
Tip
You may be able to assemble a handheld rocket launcher early on -- but not its ammo, which needs uranium. So remember to loot ammo from wrecks and to hack enemy rocket launchers and turrets and collect their ammo.
