The Button Panel is a functional block in Space Engineers.

It acts as a customizable command console, allowing players to assign blocks' Control Panel actions to in-game buttons. For example, you can assign the "Hangar Door-->Open" action to a button panel.

Usage

After you have set up a button, plauers can push it in-world to trigger the action.

  1. Hover the crosshairs over a configured button to read the action in its tooltip.
  2. Face the button until you see a highlight.
  3. Then either press F key or Left-click the button with an empty hand (0 key).

How to set up one action per button

To set up buttons to trigger block actions:

  1. Open the block list by doing one of the following steps.
    • Open the grid's Control Panel Screen, select the button block, and click Set Up Action.
    • Face any button with the crosshairs in-world until you see a highlight and press K key.
You'll see the list of available blocks on that grid.
  2. Optionally, filter the list by typing a block name in the searchbar.
  3. Right-click a block and drag it to a Toolbar slot. An action menu opens.
  4. Select a block action from the action menu.

For multi-button panels, repeat these steps to assign actions to several toolbar buttons.

How to set up multiple actions per button

What if you want one button to trigger more than one action? Some examples:

  • one button push to switch on or off several lights?
  • one button push to close two doors and then pressurize the room?
  • one button push to open a wide Airtight Hangar Door that is made up of several segments?

In this case, you have two options:

If the blocks are of the same type and you want to trigger the same actions:

  1. First, group the blocks in the control panel.
  2. In the Button Panel's control panel, click Set Up Action. A window listing available blocks opens.
  3. In the blocks window, go to the Groups tab.
  4. From the Groups tab, Right-drag the group to the slot. An action menu opens.
  5. Select desired group action.

If the blocks are a mix of different types:

  1. Build a Icon Block Timer Block.png Timer Block on the same grid.
  2. Set up your multiple actions in the Icon Block Timer Block.png Timer Block (see there).
  3. In the Button Panel's control panel, click Set Up Action. A window listing available blocks opens.
  • In the window, Right-drag the Timer block to the slot. An action menu opens.
  1. Select the Timer block's Start action.

Who can activate the button?

The owner can share button access with anyone, or the buttons can be restricted to respond only to the block's owner, or the owner's faction.

Construction

The large grid version is a 1x1x1 block, but the panel only takes up the lower half of one side. The large-grid panel has four configurable buttons plus a built-in Control Panel. It has mount points on four sides.

The small grid version is 1x1x1 small grid blocks in size, and takes up only half that space. It has only a single configurable button and no built-in control panel. It has mount points on five sides.

The buttons need power to work.
