The 
Basic Refinery is a cheaper, entry-level version of the 
Refinery block. This Production block is able to smelt 
Iron Ore, 
Nickel Ore, 
Cobalt Ore, 
Silicon Ore, 
Magnesium Ore, and 
Stone.
Usage
The Basic Refinery is an entry-level block that helps you turn mined ores into materials. Compared to a Survival Kit, it is not more effective for stone, but in contrast to the Survival Kit, it can refine raw ores.
How fast does it product items?
Refining different materials does not happen at the same rate. For example; Iron Ingots are produced at a much faster rate than Magnesium Power. The following table presents both the consumption and production of the different materials through the refinery at "Realistic" speed.

How to progress from here?
A mid-game Refinery is superior to the early-game Basic Refinery for all functions and properties except physical space and resources to construct, so building the full Refinery should become your next goal.
Inventory
The Basic Refinery can hold 4000 litres worth of ores and materials of the types that it can produce.
Enable Conveyor system in its Control Panel to allow the Basic Refinery to automatically draw any ore available from other inventories connected to it. Switch the Conveyor system off later, when you have built the more efficient Refinery!

This block used to be called Blast Furnace or Arc Furnace.
Construction
The Basic Refinery can only be built on large grids. It is 1/8th the size of the regular refinery, having a 1x1x2 footprint rather than 2x2x4 blocks.
Unlike the larger and more expensive Refinery, it has no Module Attachment ports and cannot be upgraded. Another drawback of this smaller refinery is that it only has two conveyor ports.
